Detoxification Services
The process of detoxification is continually carried out by the entire body, but it is the liver which carries the greatest responsibility. The transformation of toxins into less harmful substances, can be safely eliminated is a two step process carried out by the liver. Many aspects of the modern lifestyle, including dietary habits, dental practices and medical practices, contribute to an imbalance of the phase 1 and phase 2 liver detoxification pathways. When this occurs, the original toxin may actually become more dangerous than it was in its original form. Many types of chronic illness and cancer may result from this imbalance.
The Medical Team at Groton Wellness works closely with the Dental Team at Groton Wellness for detox after removal of mercury and other toxic substances from the teeth. In addition, we use the specific protocols known to integrative and functional medicine providers throughout the US and Europe, to assist our patients in healing from conditions often thought untreatable by western medicine practitioners. We also treat exposures to environmentally toxic substances, and use metabolic detox as a part of combined therapy for chemical detox, including from drugs and tobacco. Because optimal detoxification involves not only the liver, Groton Wellness Medical Center offers a variety of modalities to assist the process (see colon hydrotherapy, clay baths, infrared sauna, lymphatic drainage, dry skin brushing, and others below).
