Commonly Asked Questions about Skin Brushing:

How does this work?

Using special loofahs, sponges, brushes, etc., your spa therapist will show you the best patterns to use in rubbing your body in a methodical and oh-so-enjoyable way to stimulate blood and lymph flow. It is said to open the flow of energy in meridians of the body, and to stimulate energy in areas said to be stagnating.

Is it safe? Is it effective?

Skin brushing is absolutely safe and effective in increasing circulation. Please discuss any vascular disease history, skin problems, or history of cancer surgery with your medical team first.

What to expect?

Join the Groton Wellness Spa therapist who will demonstrate the method, set up the shower and steam for you, provide you with the appropriate equipment, and give you instructional material. You may work with your therapist until you have a degree of comfort with the techniques, then enjoy! You may want to follow your therapeutic shower with other services such as relaxing massage or Reiki to extend the period of relaxation.

Is it covered by insurance? How much does it cost?

As part of lymphatic drainage therapy, this technique may be covered, depending on your diagnosis and the insurer’s rules.  Please contact us for more information.
